Amongst the international food scene in Sydney, Middle Eastern cuisine is undoubtedly popular and Lebanese food, in particular, have come a long way since the first restaurant opened in the late 1960s. Al Aseel, meaning ‘authentic’ in Arabic was founded in 2002 in Greenacre, in Sydney’s western suburbs before branching out to Penrith and Wollongong and more recently to Alexandria.
Al Aseel, as its name suggests, serves up wholesome, Lebanese food that is cooked from the heart. The stylish, chic interiors and spacious indoor and outdoor seating is welcoming and friendly. The menu is quite extensive, with options ranging from hot and cold mezzas to salads, handmade pastries, grilled meat and fish dishes and Mansaf rice.
Decisions, decisions! We ordered the Falafel from the hot mezza ($13) and the Al Aseel Fattoush Salad ($15). We also ordered the Shared skewer platter which included Shish Tawook, Laham Mishwe, Kafta, garlic dip, onion and parsley sauce ($44).
The Falafels were crispy and delicious, the secret spice mix creating wonders to our taste buds and the tahini, pickles, tomato and parsley dancing a slow waltz inside our mouths.
The salad was a heady mix of cabbage, tomato, cucumber, capsicum, Spanish onions, shallots, crispy bread and sumac dressing.
The Shish Tawook, skewered marinated chicken breast and the Laham Mishwe, skewered grilled lamb cutlets took us straight to the streets of Beirut. The meat was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. The Kafta Mishwe, skewered beef mince was a delight to our senses.
Service was courteous and friendly. Great for a day out with family, friends or just the two of you. Amazing food in an amazing environment!
Bookings are a must and there is a dine-in limit of 90 minutes due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
