Friends are a blessing into our lives though it might be hard nowadays to built strong friendships and even harder to keep them.
Friends come and go but the true ones stay forever. Remember that the essence of strong friendship is about care, trust, support and respect.
Here are some qualities of a great friend:
Be real and accept your friends for who they are: don't try to be someone that you are not and don't try to make your friends change. Just be yourself and allow your friends to know your real you. If nobody pretends then everyone will be comfortable around each other.
Be honest and reliable: when you say you are going to do something be a person that sticks to your word. If you can't keep your promises don't even make them. Always speak the truth no matter how hard it is. Before lying be mindful of the fact that the truth always triumphs and that nobody wants to be friends with someone who lies.
Be loyal and trustworthy: be faithful and devoted to your friends. Be there for them in good and bad times, stay true behind their backs, don't judge them, defend them when others start gossiping them and always keep their secrets.
Make time for your friends: spending time with your friends is never a waste of time. It is actually a great way to reduce your stress and stay positive.
Listen to your friends and be supportive: no matter what is going on, show your friends that you care about them, ask them how they are doing, how they feel and what they need. Share your feelings with them and be a good listener when they need to talk.
Be respectful: mutual respect is one of the most powerful traits of a true friendship. It is ok to disagree with your friend's opinion but be respectful when you share your perspective.
Apologize when you make a mistake: nobody is perfect. If you made a mistake simply admit it and say sorry.
Love them and be happy for them: show your friends your love and be happy for their success, for their blessings and of course for their happiness.
A true friend is there for you, no matter what, and having such a person in your life is a great gift. Therefore, if you want to have a great friend you must first be one.
