Dogs contribute a lot to humans. From supporting people who are blind, deaf or disabled, to rescue and saving lives, to serving in the emergency services and keeping people safe. Dog Day was introduced to draw the public attention to the number of dogs that are rescued every year and for everyone to do their bit for homeless and abused dogs all over the world.
According to PETA, the best ways to celebrate Dog Day is to treat animals the way we as humans want to be treated, and encourage anyone who’s ready to provide a dog with a lifelong home to consider visiting their local shelter, where dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds are waiting for the right family to come along.
Here is a video from PETA about Miki. a dog who stayed at a PETA shelter for a few weeks, receiving specialized care, enjoying an epic day out on the town before finally being adopted.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an American animal rights organization based in Norfolk, Virginia. It exposes animals suffering in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. The organisation is founded by Ingrid Newkirk. We spoke about PETA and her experience with the COVID-19 pandemic in USA.
